Annie Hetzel, MSN, RN, NCSN, is the Office of the Superintendent for Public Instruction (OSPI) School Health Services Consultant. She is a registered nurse with 34 years’ experience in hospital, home care, and school nursing. She earned a master’s degree in nursing education from Western Governors University in 2014. She was the School Nurse Corps Administrator at Puget Sound Educational Service District for five years before joining OSPI as School Health Services Consultant in October 2020. She provides technical assistance and consultative support to families and school personnel on student health issues. She partners with the Washington State School Nurse Corps to disseminate information and guidance on school health, collect annual data on school health services, and provide professional development for school nurses and health personnel. Annie is the vice-president of the National Association of State School Nurse Consultants (NASSNC) and the OSPI Liaison to the School Nurse Organization of Washington. Additionally, she serves on the OSPI Student Engagement and Support Diversity Equity and Inclusion team. In her current role, Annie collaborates extensively with the Department of Health on public health and infectious disease guidance, immunizations for school children, opioid overdose response, and school environmental safety.
