Fostering Health
Equity Partnerships
The
purpose of the Fostering Health Equity Partnerships grant is to develop
relationships with communities of color, state agencies, and other
organizations to ensure community participation in state policy development,
to promote health equity, and to work toward the elimination of health
disparities.
We
are working in partnership with leaders from the African American, Asian
Pacific American, and Hispanic communities as well as with the American
Indian Health Commission to advance health equity initiatives by
addressing specific health issues impacting each community.
Representatives from different state agencies and other organizations
work together to improve communication and coordination and leverage
resources among public and private organizations that provide outreach
to Washington’s diverse communities.
In partnership with the Washington State Association for Language Access
(WASCLA) and other partners we convened an interagency limited-English
proficiency (LEP) workgroup in which members can share best practices
and leverage resources in ways that improve language access to state
services and enhance cultural competency within state agencies.
We participate in the organization and development of community
outreach activities across the state, raising awareness of
health disparities and the Governor's Interagency Council on
Health Disparities. Community members are encouraged to provide
their testimony and input to Council members who are working to
create a second edition of its state policy action plan to
eliminate health disparities.
